Striving or Serving?

Striving or Serving?

Are you Serving or Striving? What are your motives? Thoughts? Ambitions? Are they for Self gain or of selfless surrender?

Now this is something God keeps nudging me about lately… and it’s really got me thinking! What is your reason for doing what you doing? For you or for others? How often, even within our calling, do we get so caught up in the striving towards the goal that we forget Who we are serving? God calls us to press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called you (Phillipians 3:14 ) But Who and Why are we doing what we doing… sometimes we just need to stop, breath and pray and reset our mindset.

Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”So There is nothing wrong with Vision, Goals and ambitions (God’s gifted us with Drive) but when our hearts change towards self gain … then we need to realign ourselves again with the One who created us.

When we are unbalanced with Ambition, we reach the point of burn out. When we become overburdened and exhausted, We are no good to anyone. We probably not shining God’s light very brightly and showing more irritation to those around us. I know…. (confession time) I’ve been there! So we need boundaries, even in our God given call, whether it’s Motherhood, Wife, Sister, Minister, Teacher or Business Woman.

Keep checking your heart, are you serving others or serving yourself? Serving Gods Kingdom or serving your ego? Serving the poor or serving your material possessions? If we not serving God and His people… then we may be Striving for all the wrong reasons.

When our motives change, we start to head in the wrong direction. So, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”Proverbs 16:3 because,”Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” Psalm 127:1 So take a moment today to stop, breathe and check in with God. Check the motives of your heart….

So good! Checking our hearts intentions and asking God to guide our steps is so incredibly important for our spiritual journey and walk with Him! Awesome reminder! Especially in a world where it is so easy to get swept up in things that aren’t so important!

Wow, this really spoke to me! I am so often striving, thinking I’m serving. I’m definitely going to be praying on this today. Thanks for the insight!

This is so good and such a good reminder today. So often I find myself striving or serving without it being out of the overflow of my communion with the Lord. May we all seek to love and serve others out the of the overflow of our hearts and for God’s glory and name!
