Extraordinary from the Ordinary

Have you ever watched your children play with a cardboard box? How they find joy in the smallest most insignificant things? They play with the wrapping paper rather than the expensive gift you gave them!

There is so much we can learn from our children. We so often become too serious as adults, too stuck in a rut and in our routines. Yes we do need to be adults (can’t be running around in the sprinklers during our lunch breaks!) but that doesn’t mean we need to stop having fun!

In Matt 18.1-3 Jesus said that Children get the highest ranking in God’s Kingdom and that unless we return to square one and start over like Children, we will not even see God’s Kingdom.

Think of all the qualities we can learn from our children- Trust, Obedience, Humbleness, Joy, Belief, Faith, Forgiveness, Freedom, Acceptance, Adventure, and Love.

We need to get back to basics, back to appreciating the simple things in life again. We tent to over complicate and over think everything!

Next time you sitting at the park, at the school pick up or at Chucks E Cheese, watch your children. See what you can learn from them. Delight in the simple, laugh at the silly and join in the fun! Create the Extraordinary out of the Ordinary.

OH Jen – Im so glad that you have written about this……good on you!!
it is interesting to listen to Sarah talk about her choice of not being involved with her profession of Occupational Therapy and children…..( and that is where the money is ….not the aged!!)
She quips that the parents are so often causing the problems and issues as their children are not encouraged to play outdoors, climb trees, run through sprinklers, build sandcastles etc……..It is those natural things plus playing with cardboard boxes, measuring cups, bottle tops etc that teach children so much!!!
